As a new mum myself I know how important it is to be able to look good while you may not always be feeling so great on the inside. In fact, something very simple like wearing a beautifully cut top that nips and tucks in all the right places, or a flattering dress, can go some way to making you feel better on the inside too. After all we new mums need to get out and about, and having something lovely to wear can only encourage this.
Whilst struggling immensely with breastfeeding in those first few crazy weeks of having my daughter, the last thing I wanted to do was have to worry about what to wear that looked presentable and still provided easy access for feeding. After hurriedly rummaging through my wardrobe I struggled to find anything that still fitted and that wouldn't expose too much flesh when feeding. The crunch point came when I was invited to a wedding a few months later, and had absolutely nothing to wear that I would be able to feed in. I scoured the internet for breastfeeding dresses and couldn't find anything I liked that was still in stock. In the end I improvised with a stretchy high street dress, but I didn't feel glamorous. Instead I felt like I was missing out just because I was breastfeeding; something so normal yet so badly catered for in our society. My new mum friends felt exactly the same. So, after extensive research of what breastfeeding mums want and drawing on my pre-baby experience of retail buying and working for an online company, I decided to launch Milk & Mummy in 2012.
My aim is to bring you beautifully cut, flattering dresses and tops made from gorgeous fabrics, that have really sensible breastfeeding openings and are all machine washable (show me a new mum who has the time to go to the dry cleaner's!). But above everything we really hope they make you feel fantastic. We have taken a great deal of care and attention to build a website which is really easy to navigate and where it is a pleasure to browse and shop. We also believe in great customer service and making delivery and returns easy-peasey.
My son was born in February 2014 and thankfully I have the pick of the Milk & Mummy range to wear while feeding him. I'm pleased to say that I don't have any of the wardrobe dilemmas I had the first time round and I don't feel like I'm compromising on style at all. This is how it should be!
