Why 2016 has to be a better year

If we’re talking in relative terms 2016 has to be better because it couldn’t have got much worse than 2015 for me. I won’t go into the awful details now but it was a dreadful saga affecting my family and some day I could write a film about it (I’ve already worked out who’d pay the lead parts but I’d try to add a happy ending to this one). I may jest but it’s not over yet although I am learning to cope better with it. Some of my closest friends have been through the wringer too. When did life get so serious?

If any good’s to come out of the bad then it has made me realise how short life is and that I need to live more for the moment.

2016 shouldn’t just be good in relative terms to last year, it should be downright good in its own right! And it I know this is partly down to having the right outlook.

So hear’s why 2016 is going to be my year (some will call the following new year’s resolutions, I personally prefer to just call them the way things will be):

Everyday I will remind myself how lucky I am to have two very happy, healthy children. They are my world and these early, innocent years with them are so very precious that I should not let their tantrums and squabbles cloud my judgement or wish the time away.

These two make it all worthwhile!

These two make it all worthwhile!

E and O walking

With this in mind I should stop thinking I should go back to work and get a “proper job”. Running Milk & Mummy single-handedly (with the technical help of a good husband!), albeit from home, IS a proper job. Even better it’s one that allows me to flex my hours to work around my children’s day and be there for them when they need me as I’ve only myself to answer to.

More to the point being a mum is a proper job which seems to have become somewhat underrated and undervalued in today’s society. In fact a wise friend once said that being a mum is the most important yet most difficult job you’ll ever do. It says it all really.

Live for the moment. Say yes a bit more than no! Be a little spontaneous before the routine takes over your day / month / year.

Give myself a break. Things won’t go right all the time. We’re only human. I will make mistakes. I won’t always get the balance right. As a mum I’ll always feel some level of guilt. But generally I’m doing a pretty good job and I should be more positive about it!

So that’s it. That’s the “rules” I’m going by. Let’s see how I fare….

About Me:

My name is Emma and I have three (!) wonderful babies. The oldest is my daughter Elsa, born in 2011 the second is “Milk & Mummy” my online boutique selling beautiful breastfeeding clothes and launched in 2012, and the youngest is my son Oliver, born in August 2014. All three exhaust me, excite me and make me proud on a daily basis and naturally all vie for my attention! But of course I wouldn't have it any other way.
