The Terrific Twos!

My gorgeous girl is a whole 2 years old today. When she was tiny I remember thinking that I didn’t really want her to grow up, that ickle babies are just the cutest thing, but of course now I think that she just gets lovelier by the day, and I’m hoping her “twos” will be more terrific than terrible! I thought it only fitting to celebrate her 2 years with this little list of my favourite clips from her life so far. Apologies in advance if this sounds a little gloating, but if a mummy can’t be proud, then well really, who can be?

  1. After months of trying to teach her to say her Ps and Qs without any prompting I find they come out when I’m least expecting it. During a minor tantrum (from her, not me, I might add) I ask her “Do you want me to get cross?”. Her reply very sweetly is “Yes please Mummy”. I couldn’t really rise to that.
  2. I’m always kissing and cuddling her and occasionally (not every day) she will give me a really tight squeeeeeeeze and then a big and very purposeful smacker on the lips, whilst shaking with excitement, and I feel like I’m the luckiest mummy in the world!

  3. Just watching her sleeping is still one of my favourite things. I thought it might lose its novelty but I can’t imagine it ever will. I like to try to guess what she’s dreaming about.
  4. She is singing a lot of nursery rhymes now. Something she may have only briefly, a few weeks ago, will suddenly be in full burst when we least expect it. Naturally she has her own versions – I like to call them the Elsa B sides. Our favourite so far is “Old Mac Farmy has a Piggy” but it does tend to get stuck on repeat a little too often.
  5. On the subject of songs, she woke up one morning at 6am singing the Hokey Cokey. Any irritableness we may have had at this rather early awakening melted into amusement when we heard the first thing that came into her head.
  6. Her telling me she’s “Cited, Mummy” (excited, in case you wondered) when I tell her our plans for the day. She’s a good audience.
  7. After a long nap we set off for a little walk and she says “Very tired now Mummy”, in a very dramatic manner.
  8. Her appreciation of food. I know a lot of my friends struggle with their toddlers eating, or rather lack of it, and so I’m very grateful that Elsa eats most things put in front of her and often asks for more. Even so, I do go through phases of thinking that maybe she eats too much. When we go out for lunch I can’t share my plate with her as I won’t get a look in. And I also like my food a bit too much to share it!
  9. She just adores babies. There are a lot around us at the moment. Many of my friends are onto number 2. She doesn’t prod them (thankfully!), instead she goes over to them and gives them a full on, but very gentle, big bear hug whilst saying “Aaaahhhhh”. It’s making me quite broody! On the down side their older siblings, her “friends”, aren’t getting much of a look in at the moment.
  10. Her groovy dance moves and requests to put the “radiroad” on all the time. She needs little excuse to have a boogie. She must get that from Daddy G (!)

Happy Birthday Elsa!
