Beautiful Breastfeeding Clothes

Temporary single parent

Just got back from my annual business trip to Playtime Paris, the mother and baby trade fair. Pretty awful place for a working trip, but someone’s gotta do it! Ha! As if. I absolutely adore Paris, even if my credit card doesn’t. The food, the scenery, the atmosphere, the style…. the list is endless. But this post isn’t about my trip. Instead it’s about my family and how they coped without me.

They did cope. In fact, more than that, they had a lot of fun. But then they were bound to because they also had a LOT of attention. Friends offered sleepovers, lunches and play dates. They went to two parties. It was a social whirlwind. But that’s not all. The children were happy and healthy. Even the house was clean. And just to show how very capable he was… my husband MADE JAM! For someone who only cooks once a year, this is no mean feat.

I was very impressed and I told him so. We all like a bit of praise, don’t we?

I should feel happy. I am. But I’m also a tiny bit miffed. Why?

Well, today my husband has gone away to India with work for ten days. What kind of attention am I getting? None! That’s right. It’s my job, so I should be fine.

Why don’t I (or all the other mums whose partners regularly work away) get the same level of attention as he does when our other half is absent?

I suppose it’s because I am their mother and this is my main “job” and so everyone expects me to be fine. Maybe I should be flattered that people think I’m so capable.

The thing is that I don’t manage too well when he’s not here. Parenting is a team effort and although he’s at work most of the day, knowing he’s nearby is comforting. Knowing he can come home and I can moan at him if I’ve had a bad day. Then of course there’s the practical help with bath time and stories. Yes, it’s really not the same without him here.

So dearest hubby, although you’ve just gone, can you please hurry home safely?

Just don’t be expecting ME to make any jam! I simply won’t have the time.
