Beautiful Breastfeeding Clothes

Looking on the bright side

I’m sure a lot of you will agree that they don’t relish the start of autumn in the same way that you most likely jump for joy at the start of spring! I most certainly don’t look forward to it. In fact it makes me quite grumpy to have to pack away my summer dresses and sandals and think it will be a very long time till I see them again. It was made worse this year as we have just returned from a short holiday to Mallorca, where it was around 30 degrees in the day and not below 20 degrees at night, so every meal was enjoyed outside and we didn’t even have to think about sweaters or socks! OK so we brought it on ourselves, but we booked it for then so we could lengthen our summer. All I could think about as we departed Palma airport was that it would be at least 8 months till we saw that kind of weather again. Ugggh – now really that’s just too depressing!

that there are actually some rather nice things about autumn

When we got home, it was the usual holiday come-down; mountains of washing to do, back to work, back to routine and back to a cold house! However after the initial pessimism I finally saw the light, stopped being a grump and realised that there are actually some rather nice things about autumn:- a really good reason to stop eating salads and start enjoying roasts, casseroles and red wine again; snuggling up on the sofa reading to your little one; wrapping up warm for a brisk walk on a sunny autumn day (well we do occasionally have those!) and (before you think that I’m going too Enid Blyton on you) it is of course the perfect excuse to update your autumn/winter wardrobe.

I must say last year I didn’t manage to do much of that last bit – the updating of my winter wardrobe. This was because I am a real dresses and tights or tunics and leggings kind of girl and it was almost impossible to find any dresses or tunics in which I could breastfeed. If you wear jeans and tops then maybe it’s a little easier to improvise but you really can’t be lifting a dress from the hem up over your breast; apart from being more than a little undignified it’s just too cold! That’s why when it came to selecting the Milk & Mummy autumn/winter range I wanted to make sure we had dresses for every occasion, and for varying degrees of winter weather, in varying styles. So I thought you might like a little pick of some of our favourites…

If you want something that’s really easy to wear and an everyday wardrobe staple then look no further than the lovely Sofia dress in subtle blue and purple stripes. It’s made from super soft, heavy-weight stretch jersey and is uber-flattering as it is cut in an A-line from under the bust. It’s actually our best-seller so far!

Sofia dress

Hermione, in either dark grey or sassy red is a fabulously versatile little number that will take you easily from casual to more dressy occasions, such as a friend’s wedding, and it is also a wonderfully comfortable maternity dress due to its pleats over the tummy. However don’t let that put you off from wearing it once you’ve lost your post-baby tummy – I’m keeping one back for myself and I’m not even breastfeeding anymore! It’s flippy skirt, which falls above the knee keeps it fun and flirty.

Last but not least of our autumn shortlist is Zara; an effortlessly elegant dress in a gorgeous print of grey with black dots – a refreshing change from plain black. We love its very feminine cross-over neckline and its deep double-buttoned cuffs, which are really practical for those nappy changes too!

But this is just a small selection – we have plenty of other dresses available on the site. I really hope you find something that gives you the excuse to treat yourself!
