Breastfeeding in Style: Accessories

Another key rule is… accessorise, accessorise, accessorise! Chances are you have a few staple items that you wear to death when you are feeding, as you know they work for you and, let’s face it, you don’t have the time or the money to be buying an outfit for every day of the week. But you can make quite a difference to how a dress or top works by wearing different accessories with it, and thereby inject a little bit of va-va-voom back into your nursing wardrobe!

1) Scarves are brilliant. They are an extra layer which easily adds colour and warmth and can be pulled off easily should you start to overheat. They can also be used as a quick cover up over your shoulder or exposed tummy when feeding. So if you don’t have them already, then invest in a few in different colours and weights, some plain, some patterned, to give a new look to the dress you might be getting just a tad bored with!

2) A great pair of stud earrings is another asset, as dangly ones should probably be kept for special occasions now as no-one wants a torn earlobe from a grabby baby! And you can get some great studs – they don’t just have to be play-safe plain metal. How about oversized pearls or some coloured gem stones?

3) Chunky long necklaces are great for adding interest to a plain top, but just make sure they are comfortable to wear when holding your baby, and easy to take off quickly when feeding. Or simply go for a short statement necklace instead.

4) Last but not least, if you are a bangle type of girl then you probably don’t want to wear the jingly jangly clunky oversized pieces you used to wear! They will only dig into you or your baby when you are holding them. You could layer up plaited bracelets made of leather or fabric, and even adorn them with some metal beads. Just remember to steer clear of the coloured “friendship band” types you used to swap in the playground and keep to plain colours which scream effortless cool rather than hippy!

About Me:

My name is Emma and I have three (!) wonderful babies. The oldest is my daughter Elsa, born in 2011 the second is “Milk & Mummy” my online boutique selling beautiful breastfeeding clothes and launched in 2012, and the youngest is my son Oliver, born in August 2014. All three exhaust me, excite me and make me proud on a daily basis and naturally all vie for my attention! But of course I wouldn't have it any other way.
