Today is quite a big day for both Milk & Mummy and its founders (that’s my husband and me), for three reasons. Number 1; it’s one whole year today since we first launched the website, Number 2; we had our 20 week scan today and found out that we’re having a boy (my husband’s rather relieved he won’t be outnumbered!) and Number 3; it’s our wedding anniversary!
So whilst I had to share reasons 2 and 3 for you, it’s Milk & Mummy’s birthday that I want to talk about more. We’ve come a long way since launch and, without wanting to sound to smug, I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved. I thought I’d share with you my top five favourite things about running this little enterprise:
1) The clothes! I get to pick gorgeous clothes for mums like me to wear that will make them feel fabulous, and hopefully make their breastfeeding experience a bit easier (and a bit more stylish too!).
2) Being pretty much a full-time mum to Elsa as I work when she naps, so I get the best of both worlds.
3) Positive feedback. It’s so lovely when mums tell me how they’ve been so thrilled to find us. One mum said recently that it’s a godsend finding a shop which specialises in frump free nursing clothes and it’s made feeding her twins so much easier. I also love the fact that we can give a really personal service as we are so small, and I don’t want this to change as we grow.
4) Working from home. It certainly has some drawbacks, but generally it’s so much better. No commute, no need to worry about putting make-up on, no fixed hours (although I must stop working late into the night!) and easy access to my own kettle.
I know my 2014 nursing wardrobe will be totally sorted with a wide selection of Milk & Mummy breastfeeding tops and dresses
5) Now that I’m expecting again I know my 2014 nursing wardrobe will be totally sorted with a wide selection of Milk & Mummy breastfeeding tops and dresses and I won’t have any of stressful dashes into town, with a screaming newborn in tow, to buy rather uninspiring button down shirts that I can adapt for feeding. What a relief!
6) OK, I know I said five things but I just have to add one more. The Milk & Mummy photoshoots. They take a huge amount of preparation in sourcing models, the make-up artist, the accessories, and ensuring the stock’s here on time, but it’s such a great day when it all comes together and the clothes come to life in front of the camera. It all feels a bit glamorous, and a far cry from my normal working day!
It’s been a brilliant first year, in fact better than I ever expected, and I’m looking forward to many more years of providing well deserving mummies with beautiful breastfeeding clothes.
